Muscle spasms contained by lower stern?

My husband pulled a muscle in his vertebrae today (just twisted wrong while picking something up - about 5lbs, not unwieldy!)
That happened this afternoon around 1pm, he next went to bed (he works graveyard/ 3rd shift). He get up for dinner around 7, and between 7 and about 8:30 he have 3 seemingly bad muscle spasms within has final... bad plenty that they took him down to the floor...
He's in bed near a heating wad on his back in a minute...
What else can he or I do to help beside his pain? should he be alternating steam and ice? or simply stick with one or the other?
Which aching reliever is better for this? advil? aleve?
I have some 'icy hot' patch from last time I injured my posterior... would this be good to put on within when he gets up to progress to work later?
I inevitability advice! Please minister to!

Answer:    Definitely stay with the boil because it will relax the muscles. I think aleve works the best for muscles. Don't do anything next to the icyhot untill he has to take off, then enjoy him use the patches. See if he can switch any stretching, it may help relax the muscles a bit.
he requests ice for first 24 hours for swelling, consequently alternate heat and rime tomorrow, along with average activity(or it will stiffen)...if it worsens he needs to see a dr
it usally take 2 day for icy hot paches to work so try asin affliction creams
He needs to embezzle the day rotten if its that bad, Ive be there done that (stooping sideways to stop a T shirt from falling intot the hip bath as I was walking past), damn twisted my stern so bad I be flat on my back on the couch for 2 days. Hurt similar to a barsid too. actually what he wants is some Flexaril from the Dr's...it stops the spasm. (only heavy duty aching killers are gonna work...)
HEAT (not cold...)
he requirements to stretch his back next to exercise (yes I know...but it works)
he also might wanna invest in a muscle stimulator (it's an electronic device you take from the Dr..)

some people own chronic back spasms, mete out once you have one, you're really plausible to have others..so invest within exercise and pain meds.
A put a bet on injury can take a long time to alleviate. He has to whip it easy and monitor how he does things when bending down or picking stuff up. I've noticed Motrin to be a honest pain reliever because it also have an anti-inflammatory for any possible swelling. If that's not strong enough for him, I would suggest the current Excedrin for backpain. That's a very powerful over the counter spasm killer so one pill is adjectives he needs, honestly, not two. Two will mess his stomach up. Heat pad for spasms don't do much for the back.
Alright, this sucks.
I take them once or twice a year, and at their worst, they have put me on the floor, and forced-contracted me into a fetal position. First time it happen I thought I was dying.

Muscle relaxants hold done it for me, and thankfully I dont call for much.

At the time, the doc told me I would probably need some weirdo psychiatric help using electricity, but that I should wait a while and offer it some thought. To this day I'm not sure what he be trying to tell me.

Anyway, I can get the impression the spasms coming on over the course of a few days. The back muscles twinge within a random, unstable template. If untreated with relaxants, the spasm grow worse over a few days, until they threaten to put me down again.

Jeez is this a miserable experience .
Aleve is suitable. The heating wipe is good as long as it's helping him. You could alternate hot and cold, but really, that's for swelling, and I'm guessing he doesn't own any swelling anywhere.

Another thing he could do is soak surrounded by a hot bath. That will backing his muscles relax.

If he's not feeling better by the time he desires to leave for work, he should stay home. The one and only thing worse than have a muscle spasm, is making it worse.
Well the lower back is not a righteous one when you pull a muscle what i find is" solely " stay with the hot dampen, and also you can go to close to wal-mart and get a heat pad vibrator it backing a Little bit (then when he gets better purloin it back) If he can get morphine from the DOC. that would fix it right away it did 4 me formerly i couldn't walk i took 1 morphine pill and almost 3-6 hours later it be completely gone. Hope he gets better.
alternate fry and ice every 15-20 minutes. Use any advil or alleve-whichever works best-advil is an anti-inflamatory and will help dampen swelling as well as agony. If u use icy hot don't use heating wad at same time. MOIST heating wad is best! Dry heat discouraging for muscles. Try 2 advil (a) a time, but RX can be much higher-could take 4 (a) a time, but not constantly-could really hurt stomach. Try to stricture to 6 advil a day. Some really similar to using Capzacin-gets REALLY HOT, tho. DON'T use w/ heating wad! We've BOTH been here, and this is what we do! Good luck!
keep a heat pad on your hindmost all darkness but keep lt on low
