My grandfathers leg is turning purple?

First off I enjoy begged and pleaded beside him to go to a hospital and he refuse. My grandmother and I have adjectives but picked him up and put him in the vehicle! He is 74 years old and final week in a unpromising ice storm he fell and hurt his leg. This leg he have surgery on about 54 years ago after a sports car accident and have a metal rod put in so it wasnt a upright leg to begin next to. He says its sore (which I construe hes down playing the pain) and it is swollen. Now the bruses have faded because most of but for almost all of his leg have turned purple. Im afraid that this is a sign of blood clots or something even worse. Does any one know what else it could be? I know I need to attain him to a hospital. He see's a crack pot doctor who he has see since house calls waaay fund in the sunshine and he told him to give it 5 to 6 weeks and it will be ok. This doesnt seem to be right to me.

Answer:    Why don't you call the rescue squad? If his leg is turning purple and is swollen (and it is not from the bruises), next it could be the sign of a blood clot.

Has he had x-rays to rule out a fracture? When I worked on an orthopedic surgical section we always have elderly patients who came surrounded by with hip fractures that have occurred days to weeks early - they just thought the headache was run of the mill and didn't notice problems until people noticed it or until they become very off-colour.

Call 911 and tell them he fell around a week ago but the leg has change. The EMTs can bring him in.
his vein and arteries and stuff probably got clogged or collapsed or something approaching that i know when your fingers and stuff turn purple their not getting oxygen so it probably has something to near that or something.

sorry if it doesn't help I'm purely elaborating what i literary in science ultimate week.
Get him to a ER soon. Tie him up if you have to. Leg turning purple is not accurate.
Lack of circulation- he could need the leg amputated if he doesn't conduct yourself fast and step to the ER.
You may have to pick him up and put him within the car!It could highly well be a blood clot or poor circulation but a purple leg at his age could be immensely serious. He needs to progress to E..R. immediately. If he wait he could lose his leg or worse.GOOD LUCK!! I know how stubborn older citizens can be.He my be scared to stir but waiting can make it much worse.I`ll be praying for you and your grandfather.
