Hi Spadestr
What you have described is truly your diaphragm being tight, and without a doubt a few joints and muscles surrounded by the mid and lower back out of use correctly.
However the main culprit is your diaphragm. Your Chiropractor friend (unless he does Applied Kinesiology) will not look at your diaphragm as he will enjoy no technique to correct it.
When you diaphragm tightens it will cause tautness around the base of your rib shut within and also stress on your xiphoid process. It also will cause indigestion and if doomed to failure enough a hiatal hernia.
Lifting weights or doing exercises will not strengthen it, you if truth be told need to use some Acupressure exercises and breathing technique to fix it. It is a muscle you can't rest - try not breathing for a few hours.
You also need to symmetry your pelvis and lower back as these tend to be involved at like peas in a pod time.
It sounds complicated but in certainty very confident to do at home. The link below have some techniques (free) that should effortlessness things but the ebook covers all this and so much more.
I prepare my patients techniques they can use at home to remove their ache and pains. The reason is simple, I own a lot of ethnic group who live out of town and can't get to see me glibly. So I started to teach them what i use on myself.
So touch free to email me for any questions or warning so you can be out of pain.
All the best
