Can kendo be risky? It hurts!?
I started playing kendo about 5 months ago, and we of late got into our bogu. We enjoy a great team and really accurate sempais, but the first practice with bogu be just plain tight. When being hit near men (on the helmet), my head be filled next to ringing because of the loudness of the strikes, and it hurt a LOT! The men does protect, I suppose, but it definitely still hurts to be hit. Same go for kote - whenever a strike would land, I couldn't even recount if I had any protection on at adjectives, it hurt so badly! I concluded up with a red lump on my wrist by the come to an end of practice. Can any of this be detrimental to health, or does it carry better with time? I wouldn't want to wind up up with a concussion because of kendo, or an injured wrist... Also, my bogu is comparatively good trait, so I don't think thats the problem.
Answers: Yes - it can be hazardous... (you're not fighting near PILLOWS, after all).
Imagine how much it would hurt if you weren't practicing in a "professional" environment next to the proper padded gear, eh?
If you don't approaching being hit near a stick, why do you play?
First I would make sure that you are wearing the gear correctly. Is the men on carefully? How about the kote?
Not to be expect but Kendo isn't for the lighthearted. There is a certain amount of toughness involved. You will enjoy to either revise to deal next to the bumps and bruises and 'getting your bell rung' or you will need to find another sport. Sorry but that's pretty much how it is.
