Answer: I am assuming that you are getting braces. You are in for years of strain. But it's worth it when they are taken off, and you enjoy perfect teeth!
The expander will probably be thicker than the separators, so it will hurt abundantly more. Hang in at hand, though.
I recommend Motrin or another form of Ibuprofen. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory, and so it will help to drain tissue swelling (and pain). I also recommend Tylenol or another form of Acetaminophen.
Take Motrin first (note the time in which you thieve the first dose!). Wait two hours, then give somebody a lift Tylenol. Wait two hours and then bear Motrin. Continue doing this, again waiting two hours between each, so that you remain inwardly safe dosage and filch a only a single dose of like drug every 4 hours.
The directions of each drug state that you should not lift more than 6 Motrin tablets in 24 hours and 8 Tylenol tablets contained by 24 hours.
These drugs have different involved ingredients, and so you will benefit from the pain relieving effects of both, short the worry of overdosing (I did this for my tradition teeth. The dentist told me that doing this will have one and the same pain-relieving effect as taking Vicodin, and it does).

:( yes, unfortunately. I have braces for five years so I feel your strain. Try taking Tylenol, it usually reduces swelling. I'm not sure how weak you are, but 2-3 should work fine.
