If a forgiving have former history of latex allergy, would you code v15.07 contained by his subsequent hospital access?
This patient be admitted to hospital beside a myocardial infarction, how would a coder deal beside coding this when this patient have a past history of latex allergy?
Answer: First... the latex allergy requests to be investigated. If I were coding it for the subsequent admission, I would cover my butt, and code it as it be an actual allergy. In my experience, the majority of people consider an allergy to be zilch more than an adverse reaction. If this entity had dry, itchy skin from latex, it is not an allergy. If they have blisters from latex... it is a potential allergy. If they had trouble breathing after exposure to latex. THAT IS AN ALLERGY! It other makes me titter when people inform me that the are allergic to codeine, morphine, or demerol because it made them "throw up." That is a side effect, not an allergy! Latex has that same unlucky property of skin irritation.
If I were you, I would cover MY butt, and code it as an allergy. It is other better to be safe than sorry.
