Honestly, it depends on the 18 yr old-fashioned. If they are quite high-ceilinged, are over the weight shorten for the bed, or you have low ceiling, it may not be a great idea. Many college students "loft" their bed in decree to make the most out of the little space they hold. I used one when I was contained by college and it was great.
