One of the best ways is to stick to a rota - try to rise and fall around like peas in a pod time each hours of daylight. It also helps to relax up to that time going to bed - allow your body to slow down. This means, don't check email or myspace since going to bed. Instead, take a nice, long tub and/or listen to soothing music. My mom's trick when I was a kid be to give me a chalice of warm milk. (Adding chocolate to the milk, though making it more appetizing, in truth works against sleeping - chocolate has caffeine.) Long, insightful breaths can also help to relax you.
