I be too concerned with the side affects of Topamax to teem the prescription from my regular doctor. I went to a neurologist shortly thereafter and he prescribed me elavil instead. It took just about 1-2 weeks to build up. My mother, who also suffers from migraines, took Topamax briefly and had an allergic allergic reaction to it (itching and swelling), so she stopped using it.
