I fractured my kneecap, what could come about?
i didn't fall, but somehow i own a small fracture and a chip of bone that is broken past its sell-by date. i already have a knees replacement on the same knees. i am going to my ortho. tomorrow, but i'd kinda like to know what i might expect here.
so, thank you
Answer: assuming that they replaced your kneecap/patella during the initial total knee replacement, what you are describing can no problem happen (although not common) because during the surgery, they "resurface" the patella by shaving the cartilage and some bone away and replace it near a piece of plastic.
so the leftover patella bone is much thinner than inventive, and can be too thin if the surgeon took too much stale. therefore, more susceptible to fractures.
the treatment of this really depends on where on earth the fragment broke off, if the patella prosthesis/implant part of the pack is still stable (not going to fall off), and if you can still extend your knees or not (very important factor).
hopefully, it's a small piece surrounded by an area of no through consequence, your patella implant is still stable, and you still enjoy knee extension...if specifically the case, your orthopod may aim your knee flexion (prevent pulling on the broken piece) for a while.
...worst armour scenario, they need to do revision surgery to salvage the knees cap/patella implant.
