What can I expect knowing I have a miniscus split?
Answers:
If you draw from two fingers stuck up your nose, how do you smell?
Depends upon the type and size of meniscus opening. Some tears are minimal and do not require surgery. Others - you have no choice really but to procure the surgery done.
I treated a patient just now who was told by one doctor that she needed a knees replacement for her torn meniscus. She got a second judgment and now is unloading physical therapy from myself - her symptoms are almost 90% gone.
In other words, gain a second opinion. If you can avoid surgery, do it!
Recovery rates swing according to the skill of the surgeon and the type of surgery being perform (there are many different types). If they are competent to repair the meniscus, then you may own a better outcome. If they need to remove it, afterwards any impact sports may be painful for 3-6 months.
The cyst (normally a Bakers cyst) is not a problem unless it get so big and either wishes to be drained or surgically removed - don't worry something like that.
Have you had any physical psychoanalysis for the problem?
Please also remember - if your knee ever locks contained by one position DO NOT FORCE IT TO BEND AGAIN otherwise you can make the gash worse. Go straight to the doctor or ER for them to manipulate it vertebrae into place.
