Eat rime cream, it'll make the swelling dance down. Also eat or drink something rather salty, it'll verbs the wound out...I can appreciate tongue but cheek? wtf? lol
Yes saltwater or just sucking on a piece of rime until it's numb should help.
Vodka help too but NOT and i repeat NOT drinking it! Just hold it in your mouth (if you can stand the sting) over the wounds then spit.

I would suggest saline water if it's not too serious... a Dr. can prescribe a lidocaine mouthwash if it is really aching. But, as for the advice to use Oil of Clove, I don't believe you are supposed to use that on soft tissue. I know it's great for a toothache and dry socket, but I assume the packaging tell you to avoid gums and tongue. Plus, it is a seriously nasty penchant and smell.
