Advice on quitting smoking?

I'm 21 years old and I have be smoking for the past couple years. At first it was one and only occassionally then it became more and more where on earth now I will smoke more than a pack a day. Yikes! My great grandma immediately has lung cancer and I just lost my uncle at age 45 to throat cancer. I want to quit smoking so I don't come to an end up like that. Anyways I don't have insurance or the money to use things close to the patch, gum, or prescription drugs. Do you have any suggestions for me to make this process a bit easier? Any and all ideas are much appreciated!

I smoked for over 40 years, having quit and gone posterior several times. I finally tried something new and have be smoke-free for about a year. This is what I did: whenever I wanted a cigarette, I'd smoke partially of one. I did that for a couple of weeks, then I'd just nick about four or five puffs, only smoking every other time I required a cigarette. I did that for a couple of weeks until I was down to 2 drags on a cigarette, maybe 4 times a morning. Then, I decided that when that pack ran out, I'd buy no more.
Quitting cold turkey is purely about as effective as quitting heroin cold turkey. Your body is purely as addicted to nicotine and you have to wean yourself off it, approaching heroin addicts do with methadone. If you quit cold turkey, the craving is huge, while weaning yourself bad of it, there is no craving left and your body is accustomed to self without it. Good Luck, my friend!

Patches help! but since you cant win those then its upto your will - power ! remember, nothing will aid you completely stop other than your own will power. I finally did it 3-4 days ago. Had the same baggage as yours and literally used to smoke a pack but it just happened, woke up one morning and said to myself that I wont buy another pack today. Believe me I go to the market, bought some stuff and came spinal column without ending up beside the same shopping basket that I usually have (eggs, milk, junk, 10 pack of cigz)
