Any accepted wisdom on how to get things within your hand when you own to (temporarily) use crutches?
Things like your cup of tea; your hand sack (keeps falling off my shoulder and sliding down the crutch!); shopping bags - I've tried baggy them on the cruches, but I overbalanced. How inventive are you guys?
Answer: Get one of those beer drinking hats with the straw and put tea surrounded by it?.
Sorry about your injury, I know what you are going through. I can carry a cup of coffee by holding it within one hand and holding that underarm crutch to my body by squeezing it between my upper arm and ribcage and dragging it along. You can't fill the cup too full. But near forearm crutches, this is not possible. Or, I would use a travel mug with a secured top holding it near one finger while the rest were on the handhold. There are many things that can be carried next to one finger.Feel free to email me with other problems with my purse--the strap be long enough to go around my collar and one arm. As far as everything else it was a balancing act--or I made my husband do it. LOL!
Edit--was on crutches for 3 months after snapping my ankle and have surgery to screw (literally) back together-got pretty good at corresponding just about everything..
PUT YOU TEA IN A FLASK - graceful to carry around.
as for everything else (not fashionable) but a bum bag!! no slipping straps sorted LOVEY!
or a copy bag that will go over your lead with 1 arm through big enough for carrying your shopping home xxxx
devout luck.
i dunno about a cup of tea thats a hard one I don`t know a remote control car or a slave is needed for that one but other things like shopping etc you could put your things surrounded by a rucksack on your bag so your not heavier on you right or left your even hi i have your same problem i broke my leg ice skating soo yea all you want to do is take a bag that go over your shoulder and put it over your head on the oppisite shoulder
good luck.
while holding one crutch as a rule squeeze the other into your ampit and lean on it. swing it forward to move. it might be slower. but it works. If you can figure out how to use one crutch you'll have one free foot. Otherwise use a back pack or shoulder bag to transport everything (drinks will need something that seals)..
Hire a man to be your slave
