An odd sensation in my knees ligaments?

I recently started running I'm 17 and do warring arts. At first my knees themselves ached but in a minute they are fine. Now it seems if I rotate my knees to much I gain this weird klinky inkling in my ligaments to the sides of my knees. It hurts to a decent point when this happens. Is this anything to be concerned going on for or is this one of those getting into running things. I have just now started running about 2 miles per run

Laura Kennelly had be running for several years before the agony hit. Two days after finishing her first marathon, she go off next to her regular running group for an easy 5-miler. But after 2 miles, the outside of her leg begin to hurt -- big-time. "My leg just blew out. I stopped running and could narrowly walk," she recall. "I hobbled home in throbbing."

Kennelly, a writer from Berea, Ohio, was suffering from iliotibial strip syndrome, one of the most common overuse injuries among runners. Because the most celebrity symptom typically is swelling and pain on the outside of the knees, many runners mistakenly have a sneaking suspicion that they have a knees injury.

But it's not the knee, it's the ligament that runs down the outside of the thigh from the hip to the shin. "When the strip comes near the knees, it becomes come to a point, and rubbing can occur between the tie and the bone. This causes inflammation," say Freddie H. Fu, M.D., a Pittsburgh orthopedic surgeon and chairman of the board of the Pittsburgh Marathon.

ITB syndrome can result from any activity that cause the leg to turn inward repeatedly. This can include wearing worn-out shoes, running downhill or on banked surfaces, running too copious track workouts in impossible to tell apart direction, or simply running too many miles. Unlike copious overuse injuries, however, ITB pain afflicts seasoned runners almost as much as beginners.

"Forty percent of the runners we see for ITB syndrome hold been running 5 or more years,"say John Pagliano, D.P.M., a sports-medicine podiatrist in Long Beach, Calif., and a onetime 2:26 marathoner. "That's quite a lofty number. About 50 percent of them are running between 20 and 40 miles a week.

"Also ITB syndrome is much more common within women,"Dr. Pagliano notes. "Why? It could be the agency some women's hips tilt, which can cause their knees to turn contained by."

Some experts believe that the incidence of ITB syndrome has increased among adjectives runners in recent years, although the reason aren't clear. "It could be because so many runners enjoy ramped up their mileage for marathons before they're geared up to handle the distance,"say Stephen Pribut, D.P.M., a Washington, D.C., sports podiatrist.

Dr. Pagliano describes most runners with ITB torment as "Type A's." "They run high mileage," he say. "They're not willing to posterior off, and they are liable to run through pain."

How can you make clear to if you have ITB syndrome? "The best passageway is to bend your knee at a 45-degree angle. If you enjoy an ITB problem, you'll feel cramp on the outside of the knee," say Dr. Fu. "Sometimes an MRI can confirm it. An X-ray is usually negative, but an MRI can show a partial thicken of the band -- which results from inflammation."

When I first started running I suffered from this form of pain. To capture rid of it, I purchased a foam roller. Everyday I lay on my side, and rotate the foam roller along my thigh. Any medical supply store should be able to show you how to use one. I also started stretching more after respectively run. To stretch that paticular area, you obligation to cross your legs and bend down to touch your toes. I hold the position for 30 seconds and repeate it twice on respectively side. I also purchased new twosome of running shoes at a speciality running store like Run With Us, Finish Line, or A Snails Pace. The member of staff looked at my foot, and watched me pace (paying attention to where I place my immensity on my foot) and them recommended a shoe. Anyway, the shoes (Brooks Adrenaline) and the stretching worked. Within a week my pain go away. I have run 4 marathons since consequently.
