What is it like to work as a nurse's aide contained by a nursing home?

Answer:

Mysterious chest pain?

It can be extraordinarily rewarding but most of the time, it's a nightmare. The homes are usually understaffed and definitely underneath paid. The elderly and the infirmed are impressively needy, assist to be in motion to the toilet, eating, bathing, ambulating, etc. There's never satisfactory time to get everything done and you really don't catch much one on one time with any of the patients. It's a errand that really needs to be done and I salute you if you can do it. I did it sour and on for several years, when my son was small but as soon as I could, never more than a year at a time, I'd find another duty. Then I went rear to school. God bless you if you can hang down in nearby.

Oh boy.lol It can be rewarding & provoking both. Some patients throw dung at the wall & it gets below the fingernails & all over the bed. Some will clench their teeth disallow to eat or newly bite you. You have to lend a hand lift patients into chairs & aid shower them. Help them go for walk in hallway. Some will ring buzzers & scream non-stop give a hand! help! adjectives night long.
Then the delight of talking to them & audible range them tell stories is fun too.

It take a caring heart and a accurate sense of humor. Yes, some of the things the 1st person who answered WILL appear. Elderly people do sometimes attain confused and angry (don't we all). But if you continue to meditate of them a PEOPLE and see the humor in what happen, you can handle it better.

And yes, it is frozen physical labor, so take keeping of your back and your foot. Buy the best supportive shoes that you can afford (style doesn't count here) and pay attention when they educate you body mechanics--and DO it the way they edify you.
