Setting the standards for nursing training in Alberta
One of the knob responsibilities of a self-regulated profession is the review and approval of basic enlightening programs leading to entry to the profession.
In Alberta, the Nursing Education Program Approval Board (NEPAB) be established in May 1999 following an agreement between the Universities Co-ordinating Council (UCC) and the AARN. The UCC functions outlined in Sections 54 and 55 of the Nursing Profession Act farm out NEPAB to:
* make rules prescribing the minimum standards required to acquire and retain the designation "approved college of nursing"
* make rules respecting any matter that are required to secure an influential program of study in nursing
* give in to and withdraw from a university of nursing the designation "approved school of nursing"
