Yes, in the United States, both the vocabulary "doctor" and "physician" are interchangeable. Doctor can also be used for one who has achieve a doctorate degree.
We also do enjoy midwives. They must be certified advance practice nurses.

We own doctors and they are referred to as Doctor or Physician they are one in like peas in a pod, and we do use midwives to deliver babies but are only licensed to do so within certain states.
