Sitting in any position specifically not straight is bad full stop. Slouching is bad, arm chairs are doomed to failure. My Mother used to and my eldest brother does, until his back went and he soon literary about sitting on your foot. The spine is made up of bones called vertebra and they close to to sit on top of each other contained by a nice straight pile. That means in instruct for them to sit on top of each other, the hips and bottom own to also sit correctly on a nice flat surface. However if you are sat on a lump, your foot, then that is to say not a flat surface, so your muscles, tendons will contract to hold the vertebra on top of each other, albeit out of alignment.Correct sitting technique
Most those sitting for prolonged periods will eventually adopt a poor posture. When people sit surrounded by a certain position for a few minutes, the muscles that support back become tired, and relax. The body sags and this results surrounded by the slouched sitting posture.
If people maintain a slouched sitting posture for long ample, it will cause overstretching of ligaments. Thus pain will arise when we own been sitting in reliable positions for prolonged periods. Once the slouched sitting posture has become a need and is maintained most of the time, it may also cause distortion of the discs contained surrounded by the vertebral joints. Once this occurs movements as all right as positions will produce pain.
To sit correctly you must:
Sit up with your hindmost straight and your shoulders back. Your buttocks should touch the back of your bench.
All three normal back curves should be present while sitting. A lumbar roll can be used to lend a hand you maintain the normal curves within your back. If you do not use a back support or lumbar roll, you should:
- Sit at the close of your chair and slouch completely.
- Draw yourself up and accentuate the curve of your back as
far as possible. Hold for a few second.
- Release the position slightly (about 10 degrees). This is a good sitting posture.
Distribute your body weight evenly on both hips.
Bend your knees at a right angle. Keep your knees even next to or slightly higher than your hips. (use a foot rest or stool if necessary). Your legs should not be crossed.
Keep your feet flat on the floor.
So where on earth does it say sitting on one foot is good posture for your spinal column!
Best of Luck
