My doc prescribed tylenol 3 for after the surgery but I have a MONSTER headache today! I know ibuprofen is off margins but I was wondering about tylenol. My surgery is laproscopic so within will only be two tiny little cuts made (about 1/2 inch each) and I know the concern with advil, etc. is blood thinning. But I figure with such little cuts it shouldn't be a problem...especially a few days before the surgery. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Sorry, but codeine is on the index of medications to be avoided if at all possible for a week prior to surgery. It have blood thinning properties, even more so than Ibuprofen and aspirin. The Tylenol you can have- the codeine you should avoid. If the headache is tension related, try heat or stroke. If it's sinus- a steamy shower or steam facial, or a hot pack to the face. You could also try coffee for the caffeine, or a single mixed drink as a muscle relaxant. Any of those will be long out of the system in plenty of time. But stay away from the Tylenol 3.
