Cleft chops is cause by what?
I always thought that cleft lips be a genetic disease. Now I found out that it is caused by medications such as phenitoin and phenobarbitol. Is it both that produce it? what other things might cause it?

And you're saying that it is cause by alcohol and drugs in the 6th week of pregnancy..Hmm..Interesting..Yes it does happen around the 6th week..Sure, alcohol and drugs do affect some kiddos..To use that blanket statement is beyond ridiculous! My daughter be born with a unilateral cleft lip and palate..Hers was spontanious..NOT due to alcohol or drugs..That is pretty lewd and well, ignorant! Sorry you're so beyond misinformed..It can be genentic, inherent, envirnmental, we are actually in a study right immediately where they were concerned beside water..I was asked question like how long were your baths, showers, did you bath dishes or clothes by hand, did you swim..If it had to do near water, they asked..They do link some clefting to folic sour..Not enough, too much..It can be caused by a little things..From what I understand about medication, it cause clefting in tested animals, not humans..(they probably have to utter that :o) ) 1 in 600 births will be cleft affected..That's a great deal..But sorry llew, I'm thinkin' they all weren't taking drugs or alcohol..If your doctor is telling you that as resourcefully, geez, sorry they are the ones that were treating you..My condolences...

It's caused by drug and alcohol use during the 6th week of pregnancy. The frontage forms in 3 parts, and the parts fail to close correctly over the frontage and cause cleft lip and palate. The original witches for example within wales used drugs, and a sign of your mother being a witch was a cleft lip.A number of women's groups related to cleft chops like Wide smiles have stated it be due to lack of vitamin,s but there is no proof of that. There is plenty of proof it's due to to alcohol and drug usage though, but few mothers will make a clean breast to that.
BTW, playing a woodwind instrument will help strengthen the lip and palate later, and stop the slurring and speech impediment which usually accompany it.
And it's not just Rx drugs and alcohol, but any med too. It only has to hit the fetus at the right time and be in the mother's bloodstream.
I have my repair done by the DR. who literally wrote the book on it. I have problems with headache due to teeth moving around as there isn't enough bone bits and pieces to support the teeth staying where they should. but few people sense or care about the blotch, as the repair was done by the best. I did have one other problem tho-I for a long time lack the ability to form bonds in module due to abuse as a kid, and also due to the fact my mother be instructed to get in a sports car to drive away when I started crying, to get me used to the hospital where not a soul would come if I cried. This has led to other problems where on earth I lack the idea/feeling anyone will ever help me when I am hurt or want it.

Cleft lip is a multifactorial condition, meaning there are genetic and environmental influences. It can be isolated, or subdivision of a larger syndrome. If it is part of a syndrome, there are high genetic factors. If it is isolated, there are usually more environmental influences. It is agreed to run in families.It is congenital..meanining they are born beside it...not a disease really but a malformation...There is an opening contained by the lip that is referred to as cleft lip. if there is an gap at the roof of the mouth it's called cleft palate.the mouth is called palate.

It is a misshapenness rather than a disease and the upper part of the lip stands out more and some individuals in the past call it hare's lip because of that but that is no longer said .. now one call a baby born with this malfunction .. a baby with a cleft lip or a cleft palate if it is an introductory in the roof of the mouth. but they can have operation.. later...xxxx
