Usually near major surgeries, there is more than one doctor. So, I'm assuming that the other doctor take over until the other guy gets back. Usually smaller amount serious surgeries (Tonsil removal, ear tube placing, etc.) Only take a few miinutes, so I think the surgeon could hold it until later ;)
