Ex-AA member...a press...
Why did you leave? Did you stay sober after leaving? How long ago be your last meeting?
Thanks
Answer: I not here because, although the social support and behavioral guidelines were useful for a couple of years, after that, the meeting and the entire program began to have a cynical impact on me. There is a huge emphasis on group-think which is extremely unhealthy. There is greatly of abuse within the program but no works to deal with it. And so few relatives are even helped by the program.
I am 10 years sober. I left AA a year ago. I did turn to one meeting in tardy 07 but was sickened by it, literally sickened to hear a bunch of people make conversation about how much more honest they are than "normal" people...which be SO not true...I KNOW those people and they are not honest at all!.
I not here because there comes a point where AA itself can become a dependency. I own remained sober, and my last meeting be in 2002. Though I have have a couple of lapses, I haven't fully relapsed. And I haven't used or lapsed for 18 months. Good luck with your salvage. Peace M. I left because I wanted to do drugs and drink... I step every once in a while when I'm feeling doomed to failure about myself but I don't stay for long.
Good Luck!
