For adjectives you GPs out here...please help out me!!?

For a health and social assignment I am working on at the moment, I need to write about how General Practitioners (GPs) keep up their environment for clinical procedures...so in other words, what do GPs do to make sure the environment they are working in is suitable for clinical procedures? I entail to discuss this in specific relation to the following:
-hygiene
-documentation
-observation
-personal preparation
-legal and organisational requirements

The trouble is, I am completely clueless about any of this! How does a GP personally prepare themselves within order to maintain an environment for clinical procedures? How does a GP use hygiene, documentation, observation and trial and organisational requirements in order to maintain an environment for clinical procedures?

I'm so sorry this press is so repetitive, but I do so hope you can help me out.it's all getting on my wick somewhat.

Peace and Lights

Answers:    Okay I am not a GP but I do work in the primary guardianship setting so can cover some of this as it is the same for my profession.

Hygiene - standards are set and assessed by Healthcare Commission - soon to become Care Quality Commission.
The key thing will be appendage hygiene - pre and post examinations. Also use of aprons, gloves etc when dealing with bodily fluids.
Housekeeping staff will clean the environment. For equipment this will also be done, usually by other clinical staff, with appropriate wipe.
GP's would be responsible for ensuring the equipment is clean before they use it.
Documentation - near will probably be a Trust policy on what is expected - you could contact the Freedom of Information department within the PCT in your area and ask for a copy. They will also most plausible have to work within their own professional guidelines such as British Medical Association.
Legal and organisational - they need to abide by their professional regulations as capably as Trust policies which should be written taking into account professional needs. This will be covered by clinical governance which is there to ensure best practice and safest possible diligence for patients. If you look up clinical governance and Standards for Better Health it may help. Each PCT is assessed annually against the standards so they have to provide assurance of compliance. This then go towards the overall ratings of each Trust.

HELP KNEE HURTS REALY BAD PLEASE HELP?

I am not a GP, but have have a few surgical procedures done by my GP. Remember these are 'minor' procedures, so the environment does not have to be sterile, as it would be in a operating theatre as the minor procedure seldom be in motion that deep. My GP room is also his normal everyday Clinic room, except the clinical procedures take place on a specific hours of daylight, the day after the cleaning crew have been contained by and thoroughly cleaned all the surface areas, floors and so on. Most GP Clinics have normal cleaning on a daily basis, but once a week the entire room is cleaned. Therefore the morning after, is the best time for the procedures. The examination couch is always covered in disposable towel bits and pieces along with the pillow and the GP will wear a disposable gown, might wear a face mask and wear disposable gloves. As for the equipment that comes already sterilized so once opened and used is disposed of. I had a lump removed from the soft area of skin over my eye, below the eyebrow. Injection first contained by and around the area, with some adrenaline to stop the bleeding. Knife used along with cup plate too mount the lump for pathology. Then stitches, silk stitches so no scar. He also put some powder around the wound after stitching before I left but no dressing. The same be for the lump in foot, heel area, only this time no adrenaline and he used dry rime to freeze the lump before cutting around it. I cannot recall if I have stitches? My Mother had a first full of skin cancer removed from her shin, dry ice and knife and after he sprayed her face with I do not know and the cancer went purple afterwards fell off, leaving healthy skin after a few weeks. Mother refuse to go out with a purple face.
Outside of that to cover himself properly he also took several photographs of before and after shots. He stated it was for his records, but it be just in case it go to Court. The documentation, I had to sign a surgical form, which was blank but I assume he filled surrounded by after I left. Likewise once I had left he disposed of everything into special clinical buckets, sprayed the couch near alchol, laid out the new paper and opened up brand new gloves, gown and instruments.
Hope that helps.
