Should I hold really gone to the hospital or even a doctor for this?
I was cutting some veggies using a mandolin the other night & I didn't use the protective piece that holds them while you do it & I cut through my thumb & my fingernail.
It is still just attached so I guess you would just call it a laceration but it is totally close to being actually amputated from the top of my finger. It is not deep ample to see any bone but is still very deep & starts about in the middle into my nail bed.
I just did what I thought was best at the time. rinsed it beneath water until my boyfriend got me some cotton wool & then applied pressure & elevated it until it stopped bleeding (which took just about 10 minutes). I then gently cleaned it & applied antiseptic spray & applied sterile gauze & a plaster.
I was of late curious about if that was the right thing to do for that generous of injury & looked online & every website I've seen says I should have gone to hospital.
It hurt deeply but I didn't think it was bad satisfactory to bother anyone in a hospital with? It is still really sore & bleeds if I bump it on something but looks clean & uninfected. Should I dance see a doctor, or just go if it starts to look angry?

Going to the Doctor is strictly your call. It sounds (without my in reality seeing it) like you will lose that part of your fingernail that was cut stale from the nail bed. The area under your nail is filled with capillaries, and will bleed profusely (as you discovered). The key reason for going or not going to the doctor would be cosmetic. The wound will probably heal just fine, but the fastener and the finger under it might be scarred or deformed (again I have not see it). You said that it happened "the other night", so by now, there is probably not much that can be done roughly reattaching any amputated or partially avulsed pieces.
Since the capillary bed under the nail is involved, I would save a close eye out for signs of infection. I would strongly suggest going to the doctor at the first sign of infection (if it starts to look angry).
This is just my initial reaction to your question, and I cannot be more detailed near the limited information that I have. If you have ANY concerns, I would see a doctor. As long as it does not carry infected, it will heal. As for anything other than that, after several days, there is probably little the doctor can do for it. Source(s): 21 years as an EMT.
Yes, you should enjoy gone. When was the last time you had a tetanus shot? How well brought-up did you really clean it out. Not just washing beside soap and water - did you irrigate the wound to make sure that there be no small particles deep down in the wound? You might stipulation stitches or at least steri strips so that it heal correctly.
