Dermabond on the perineum after ripping through 2 sets of stitches?
I gave birth last sunday naturally and my doctor feel that it was best to let me tear instead of doing an episiotomy. I done up tearing in the shape of a C, she stitched me up but by thursday I had ripped the stitches. I go in and got stitched up again that same day, but terminated up ripping the 2nd set by monday, so when I went in yesterday instead of stitching me up again she just used dermabond on the rip. I have never heard of anyone getting dermabond on the vaginal area. Is this typical or should I be concerned that my doctor is not sure what she is doing since I ripped through 2 sets of stitches?
Answers:
Conservatively speaking, dermabond should not be used in any area with abundantly of movement, surfaces rubbing together or in a wet, moist area. So it should not be used ideally. But your bag is different and sutures have failed twice. Obviously your skin is not holding the sutures together and esp now predictable that it'll definitely not hold third time because firm, clear cut skin is needed for suturing. So your doctor may have found applying Dermabond as an appropriate thing to do.
I suggest you stop by the doctor every 2nd day to ensure that the Dermabond has not thinned or weakened because vaginal nouns is moist, moving. Ask doc for suggestion if it's ok to reinforce with Dermabond again if this has happened. Source(s): I am all right familiar with Dermabond.
