Sounds like a herniation of the L4 or L5 disk. Pinching your siatic nerve which cause the hip/leg/butt pain
I have had 3 herniated discs repaired and this is how I feel each time:
pain radiated down my leg and into foot.
no dull pain in my back at all.
the niggle changed to tingling and numbness sometimes.
Could not straighten my leg that was effected when sitting in the hip bath or on the floor. Felt like the muscles in the back of my leg be tight and too short.
The pain that went down my leg almost felt close to jolts of electricity.
When I layed on my back I could lift my leg up but if I relaxed and someone else did it, it was excruciating. Weird, yes.
Had trouble sitting for any length of time, again, aching down my thigh, into leg and down to foot.
The link I have provided is very helpfull and explains oodles things about this condition.

Good reason for Health Care. But those are the symptoms for a bulged disk in the L4,L5 nouns. Just as mentioned before. If that's the case nothing but rest muscle relaxers and twinge pills will work for a long time. Minimum 1 year of doing nothing strenuous.
