(England) I've registered at my doctors. They want a urine token at the registration interview, why?
I'm a bit umm .. concerned.
It seems like it's 'normal' for this to happen so I figure someone on the internet must know why.
Why do they want a urine sample?
Do they test it for underlying problems?
Do they store it?
What will it be used for?
I was going to ask the quiz as it first came into my head. It was reasonably funny because how the question came into my head be
"My doctor wants a urine sample. I'm pissed off."
I'm still unsure whether I should donate this 'contribution' but apparently it's essential if you want a doctor :(
Answers:
During your registration they asked a fe questions such as , how much you drink, do you take drugs, do you smoke are you on any medication (including over the counter ones) - the Urine sample will check for this and next the results will be talked over with you - gives them a skylight to your current health status.
In my workplace they do this check every 2 years, but here they are trying to catch substance abusers as the work we do can have trunk safety implications for the surrounding areas - not a good opinion to be out with the clouds if you know what I mean
I suggest it is, as you said, to test for underlying problems, for example HIV or an STDs - if you have anything like that later they would have to be extra careful with adjectives the equipment and tests they do, as some doctors may not feel comfortable treating a patient near that sort of illness.
It might just be to check how your body's doing, like how your kidneys and everything are, basically to make sure you're okay.
Nothing to worry about, hope this help :)
um when i went to england, they took a blood sample. which was so iratic
Probably to check that you don't have any in full view infections or diabetes. In my experience of urine samples, they just put a small dipstick in it, check the colour against a chart and next throw it away.
They are taking the piss to test for kidney problems, drug dependency and many other things.it is the same as a early scan.
checking for drugs maybe or some other health check
my doctor has a details in the surgery saying no drug addicts
lately do it
Generally, when a physicians organization wishes a urine sample at an initial visit, they are using it for routine screening. They use a dipstick which when dipped into the urine, and 15 and 30 seconds ratify, can be read for the presence of sugar, ketones, bilirubin, red blood cells, white blood cells, etc. and is then discarded This is an inexpensive and swift screening test in order to identify those who enjoy undiagnosed diabetes, other metabolic disorders. gallbladder or liver disorders, bladder or kidney infections, etc. This urine is not used for drug testing. (Too expensive to screen EVERYONE) and , the urine itself is also discarded after initial trialling. They may have a protocol in place that if red blood cells or white blood cell are present in the urine, they culture it for bacteria, but this is probably done in a second step, as the urine is credible not being collected initially in a sterile container. (Once again, cheaper not to, it is British NHS) Source(s): 28 years of working in this business
THE LAST I READ WAS THEY NEED TO KNOW IF PEOPLE ARE COMING INTO THE COUNTRY WITH AIDS.
hiyya
dont be worried...
all they will do is put a test stick in it to check you don't own excessive glucose or protein in your urine (which are symptoms of some common problems such as diabetes). The whole lot will later be thrown away.
