How can i prevent shoulder injury?
I swim anyywhere from 4-6 times a week and I specialize in butterfly. When i swim a lot, or do closely of backstroke my shoulders really hurt.I have a friend who also swims who got tendenitis and have to have fluid removed from her shoulder every week... i don't want that to happen to me. I really a short time ago want to prevent injury in general. Are within any special exercises or stretches i can do to protect my shoulders?
Answer:
Dizziness...should I do anything?
Yes, you need to strengthen your rotor cuff muscles. These muscles cause seriously of the tendonitis in swimmers. Any type of overhead motion can wear on them. Your backstroke is a good example. Butterfly is another angelic example. Anyway, go to this page and scroll halfway down.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotator_cuf...
You will see three exercises. Do them nearly every other day, to every 3rd day. You can use soup can, or water bottles in place of the dumbbells. It does not cart much weight to exercise them. They are small muscles, and that is the prime reason they can get hurt well. After a couple of months of doing them, your shoulders should feel better. You will see a good advancement in your butterfly also.
