Answers: *I have been on it for 10 years. I single take it when I am in pain. I step many days to many weeks without taking it. So I deliberate it is only addictive if you have an addictive personality. Short residence use I would not worry about it. I have have no side affects with it. Your more likely to rot your liver and kidneys by taking OTC pain meds next you are to getting addicted to vicodin. Take the vicodin. You probably have a mild concussion. I broke my nose last year. It be painful. I have had falls, vehicle accidents, concussions. The pain will get worse it you do not transport it. I have never had upset stomachs from vicodin. If you are so worried about that devour something before taking it. But I have never had any side affects from it. Source(s): nurse
If you're not likely to take it, then don't. However, they gave you the Vicodin for a intention, so maybe that should tell you something? Even if you did get addicted, you don't enjoy an unlimited supply of it, so you'd be stuck coming off it as soon as you run out of pills. If the pain is that bad, I'd suggest purely taking it. If the side effects are too much call your doctor and ask if they can suggest something else.
Good luck, and feel better!
Take the vicodin as perscribed by the doctor as needed to control the pain. The risk for addiction is minimal as long as you don't mishandle, or take more than instructed. Short term use will not lead to addiction. Addiction is a process that take time. Your concern is a good indicator that you are not subject to abuse the medication. Please note that this is solitary a personal opinion based on my experience with chronic rear legs pain.
Best to you...
Im sickkkkkkkk:(((((((((((((((?
Using vicodin for a few days will not make you addicted, I promise. It can cause nausea, constipation, drowsiness. Keep surrounded by mind that many over the counter drugs cause these same problems.I don't recommend Advil. It has a blood thinning effect, not accurate w/ head injuries.
If you are that worried about the altered mental status, take 1/2 vicodin. If strain is not better in 30 minutes take the other 1/2. Have a light snack near it - a few crackers - to avoid stomach upset. I'm guessing the prescription was written take 1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours. So don't take more than 2 every 4 hours. Taking it by 1/2 will administer you more control over the effects.
I hate to hear of anyone in pain. I enjoy a chronic pain disorder and have taken vicodin for 5 years, as my doctor orders. Without it I couldn't work, or wallow in life at all. I'd be dead or confined to my room.
Again, taking it for a few days will not generate you an addict! It will help the pain and allow you to rest. Our bodies want rest to heal.

Hey "Med109" as a medic u should know that ibuprofen, naproxen sodium and some other nsaids have an anticoagulant effect, which is contraindicated in chief injuries, due to the risk of increased cerebral bleed. I'm going to own a physical, should..
I will start by saying that yes it can be addictive, but that's the case with long permanent status use, (my dad is addicted to nyquil so go figure) im sure that you have enough to go and get you through this painful time. I am a medic and it is seems to be rare for Drs to perscribe Vicoden, they usually say-so take some advil. So for them to give you vicoden they must know that advil is not gonna cut it. As long as you follow the instructions you will be fine. Eat a small snack. The other person said to pilfer half a pill, that is a good perception. Also don't drive until you know how it makes you feel! Look at you bottle, I am sure it says hydrocondone 5/325? That method 5mg of the actual drug, and 325 of tylenol (1 regular tylenol) so it really isnt a big dose. Take the pill and enjoy being out of pain. You give the impression of being to have a prob with passing out within the shower, so do not take a vicoden and take a shower lolDoes anyone know what this torment within..
