I don't dream up that I'm getting flawless adequate treatment from my GP, can I insist on a referral?
Last week my GP gave me the usual "Let's give it three months..." brush bad. If my symptoms return in the interim, can I insist on a hospital appointment.
Answer: Are you asking for a referral to a different type of doctor, or another GP? You have the right to do both, but the agency you go about it might vary depending on what you are asking for exactly. The only way you will achieve a "Hospital Appointment" is if you are a patient at one of the clinics at the hospital, if that is the grip, getting a different doctor is really simple. If you have insurance and you can find a different GP, you can go to contained by your area, then you can progress without any referrals. Just call for and make sure that they work with your group. (most insurance companies work this way). Now if you are trying to see a specialist and use your insurance after you will have to have a referral from a GP for your insurance to payment. Also, alot of Specialist require that you be referred by your GP.
I am curious what type of condition you are being treated for that can wait for a 3 month return call on, because I'm sure I don't have to tell you this but by recounting you to return in 3 months you are being "MicroManaged".

Sorry that you seem to be to think your not getting good plenty treatment from your doctor only you know this. However, I thought this of my own doctor until someone suggested that on future visit to my doctor I actually wrote a list of question and queries to ask my doctor thus eliminating going over alike old ground over and over again. Often we forget the salinet points and come away not having address the reason for going to the doctor in the first place. This applies deeply much so when you have several things to discuss with your GP.Give you doctor another crack at the thrash and see how it goes and do mention how you feel. You may be surprised at the difference it will generate to relationship with yoru GP.
If you are still disatisfied by all resources ask your doctor, but remember the referral has to come from GP anyway and he will want to know why you want to be referred.

PS I now own a brilliant patient doctor relationship with my GP in a minute we cleared the air. He is one my side and is not patronising, but he will tell me if he think I'm over reacting...all of this fragment of patient care as in good health.
You have a right to ask for a referral.
The doctor is not legally obligated to engender a referral, but would be smart to do so.
Depending on your insurance, you may be able to self refer, if you are unable to attain your PCP to refer you.
