Not every laceration needs an antibiotic cream. If it is deep and long, it requests suture and a barrier cream like polysporin. The simplest, most superficial cuts, resembling paper cuts, most shaving accidents and the resembling need neither. In between, if a cut is deep but short, it may suffice beside just a barrier cream. and I don`t know a protective cover (gauze).


But, no it is not automatic or crucial in many minor cuts.

If available, first point I would do is pour peroxide over the cut which cleanses it and destroys bacteria. Then depending on the depth of the cut or wideness, I would put some steri-strips across the cut to close it, then apply some Neosporin and a band-aid. I would put Neosporin on any cut because it will slaughter any bacteria that was on what cut you.
