It depends on your health and your need for sleep. The body take what it needs. I would try an experiment, on a day you don't own to watch your time try making a note of what time you be in motion to bed and what time you wake without an alarm. This is the amount the body desires if not sick or not overtired when you go to lay down. The body uses what it requests, then you would wake up lacking any prompting to do so.

I am middle aged and I get 6 hours and feel ably rested, but that is what I naturally appear to need. I can't have more as I any feel overtired soon if I did or my body is not on the schedule I am used to contained by daily functioning and stay up too long later next. I would see what you naturally need to use.

yes should should really try to bring back at least 8 hours a night but contained by this world that doesnt seem to be possible for anyone so if you can only seize six make sure its a good 6 hours of uninterupted sleep (again as much a possible)
