Medic next to patella problems? Injury cause slight grinding/vibration?
Details. I'm a paramedic. this is not a serious injury, but a touch puzzling.
A few days ago, I took an 8 foot fall on my knees onto soft dirt while wearing knee pad. I gave myself a nice bruise on my knee, and tonight I notice when moving/rubbing the patella of my right knee, that it has a slight grinding/vibration sensation to it, whereas the not here patella behaves completely normal.
I'm probing for a cause for this, potential causes, things to rule out. I enjoy full range of motion, minimal swelling (due to bruise), fully weight attitude, no pain or tenderness (aside bruise). Looks run of the mill, acts pretty normal.
I realize if the situation change, starts hurting more, swells, etc, that I'm headed to the doctor stat for an assessment. But as a medic, with predetermined orthopedic skills, I'm curious about what the potential causes and problems could be.
Any thoughts or suggestions, anyone?

If you'be broke your thumb would you still know how to move it?
Maybe merely the result of the trauma to the knee. Use the good elderly RICE technique and see what happens in a few days. If at hand is still continued swelling may be due to increased fluid build up or a small tear somewhere, but if there is no agony then I would possibly discount that. Stay off it too for a time or two. Otherwise get a referal to a Ortho.Chondromalacia patella
I have this! within both knees. Chondromalacia patella is the softening and degeneration of the cartilage underneath the patella. When your knee bends and straightens and the patella slides over the joint the soft cartilllage grinds against the bone causeing the ginding/vibration your detailing.
It is thought to be related to overuse, injury, or too much force on the knees. This could therefore be due to your accident but also..
It is agreed to develop in adolecence and so you could have have it before and not realised!! It is not really serious but if it is still a problem around the age of 40-50 it could develop into arthritis or you could need an operation to chafe off the soft cartilage from your patella.
hope this helps!
Any podiatrists within the house?
I may be wrong because i'm not a doctor or anything, but I have something very similar happen, and I go to the doctor about it, all one and the same symptoms pretty much and I learned it was "Patello-Femoral Syndrome".Symptoms of Patello-Femoral Syndrome:
Patients usually own pain in the front of the knees, around or beneath the knee cap. Patients may enjoy difficulty going up or down stairs. Also, after remaining seated for a prolonged time, they may experience extreme discomfort with their first few steps after rising. The symptoms improve beside further walking. They may also complain of joint locking or the feeling of shared instability.
I be wondering if anyone have have the drug Tegretol previously?
