Microfracture surgery... Please answer.?

I may have to be having microfracture done to my patella contained by 3 weeks, i was wondering if anyone knew how long the repossession was, and when i would be able to return to competitive cheerleading?
The season starts contained by August but i would need to be able to soar and stunt by the beginning of October. Tumbling would be great but not necessary at that time...

I plan on asking my doc these question too, but was wondering if any one has have this experience and could share their stories... thanx

Also, my doc thinks i may have a torn ACL as in good health... and if that is the case i know that salvage would be much longer but i wont know for sure until i go back within 3 weeks...

here are my symptoms:
*swelling
*instability in knee(knee feels as though it may buckle again)
*max ROM 75*(after that knees feels like its gonna pop odd...and "locks" up)
*tenderness around patella and along medial aspect of knee
*inability to bear cargo without immobolizer on
thanks again

I'm not sure why your doctor is suggesting a microfracture surgery, as that does not seem to be to be necessary. It does sound similar to besides the possible torn ACL, you may have a medial mensicus tear. The locking is markedly indicative of such a tear.

With a microfracture (if you do need one), it can be difficult to bring up to date when you will be able to resume your normal deeds. Some people can recovery fairly quickly and return to full activity around 2 months. Others, verbs to have problems and never return. It also greatly depends on your orthopedic surgeon's post-operative protocol as some surgeons are more agressive than others.

If you do have a torn ACL, this is extend your seizure time. With a very agressive post-operative protocol, you could return to cheerleading in 4 months. The orthopedic group I work for, is especially aggressive and sports oriented. Patients typically begin rehab the hours of daylight after surgery. We are also allowed to use a highly accelerated protocol and hold had amazing results with it. A typical post-op protocal may own you returning to sports in 5-6 months.

There are some things you can be doing now to help out speed up your recovery after surgery. It is important to carry on whan ROM you have, we generally similar to to see patients around 0-120 before surgery. But sense you may have a meniscus rupture, it is not necessary to push your ROM. You also need to work on your quads to sustain prevent atropy. With your immobilizer on, you can do quad sets and straight leg raises. You will also need to get sure that your swelling is minimal before surgery, as some surgeons will simply not operate on a grossly swollen knee.

Good luck
