My boyfriend have a sprained ankle, its Swollen and seriously bleeding.
He was playing football and went over on to his ankle and he hear it tear. A lump has appeared, he cant tramp on it without being surrounded by agonising pain, he has have it x-rayed and it is not broken. However, the A&E was very busy at the time and adjectives he was told was to rest up and lug pain killers. I get the impression this is bad advice as he seem to be in a lot of strain. He has work next week and his livelihood involves alot of heavy lifting and is very strenuous. Does anybody know what he should do and how long it will pocket to heal?
Your comments will be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks
A very Concerned girlfriend.
Answer: As long as zilch is broken, you do not need to worry too much. But it still is vital not to put the ankle under too much pressure If the cartilage is damaged/split, it can get worse.
I don't recommend to take painkillers, since the body will no longer be able to enlighten him when he's putting too much stress on its wound.
Also, ask for spray in the apothecary. There's also medicine for rebuilding cartilage (tablet, powder, ..) e.g. Glucosamine. Some lint might help as well.
But most prominent of all: If he wants it to make well properly, he should take a few days of rest!! If he doesn't, his ankle might grow back surrounded by the wrong way. And if he does want to move around, tell him not to press it too much.

I don't close to to sound too pessimistic but when I had a seriously sprained ankle my doctor told me that it would be a full 6 months previously I felt that it was completely better. I thought that he be being a pessimist but he knew better than me. To consistency totally secure on my ankle it took 6 months with tons minor twists of the ankle inbetween. I hope your boyfriend does a lot better than me. A sprained ankle usually takes a couple weeks to treat.
i really think that he should take the week of work,
unless he requirements to be in pain. i've never experienced that serious
of sprain, so it may whip 2-3 weeks to fully heal and till
he should be walking on it, it may tear again, so convey him
to stay put ( use crutches or a wheelchair. )
goodluck..
it will take at least a week previously it feels strong enough to put your foot on properly, get it up above your waste, and pack it near ice and wait, i am afraid specifically all you can do !
you could cover it in whitch hazel this will bring the bruise out quicker and speed the invigorating time a bit ! look up the RICE method of treating sprains.
Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation (raising it to keep the swelling down) and timely stretching Exercise when the swelling has passed. He MUST stay sour it now, no ifs, no buts, no excuses. Or suffer permanent reduce to rubble..
yep-keep it strapped up, rest and painkillers-all you can do! i suggest put on a deep heat gel on his ankle for almost 2 weeks and rest it should be fine
it worked for me!

keeep it in a strap and take regular pills For immediately, take care of it as resourcefully as you can (RICE and painkillers). Get him back to the hospital or the doctor as soon as possible to get a second inference. There are two reasons for this. One, it's extremely difficult for your boyfriend to walk on the ankle. Two, he hear it tear. Both indicate a grade 3 sprain, which involves disappointingly torn and/or ruptured ligaments and may require surgery or immobilization with a cast. The doctor should also double-check to product sure there are no fractures that didn't show up on the first x-ray (sometimes they don't show up right away). By no means should your boyfriend run back to work in those conditions. An injury approaching that will take a full 6-8 weeks to heal.
You're right to be worried and not hold a lot of faith contained by the doctors at the emergency room; they're often overworked, not particularly thoughtful, and tend to make a lot of mistakes.
