My son have a suspected stress fracture within his foot. Is it better to travel to an Orthopedic Surgeon or Podiatrist?
He was put in a boot later fall, but the pain have come back. we have changed insurance and his antiquated doctor is not covered, so we have to start over and looking for the best course of action.

A podiatrist whose title pause in DPM,FACFAS is also a foot related surgeon.If you see an orthopedic doc make sure it is one that specializes surrounded by feet, most orthopedic groups have at tiniest one foot surgeon.
If it were me I would see the podiatrist, it wont cost as much and I think they hold a better manner.

I surmise either one could take attention of the problem, but, if it were me, I would go to the orthopedic surgeon, because if it have to operated on, I don't know if the podiatrist could do that. If you went to him and he is not a surgeon, and it have to be operated on, then you would hold to go to the surgeon, causing like mad of paper work for you, and you know how health consideration works today. Taking nothing away from the podiatrist, I would go beside the surgeon. Hope I have helped you.
For the best course of act you need to see a podiatric surgeon. There is a differential diagnosis of friebergs infarction which typically affects the lesser metatarsal head especially the 2nd, and can be due to trauma. This condition is seen especially in the second decade of natural life usually in famales but can occur within males. An X-ray is needed to determine this.
See a doctor and get an x-ray. Importantly, your son must rest the foot.
Othopedic surgeons seldom do anything special for stress fractures other than plaster them or put them contained by a boot. A podiatrist is good for arch supports but not the person to see for bone trauma.
