I live in illinois. My dad died leaving my mom with no strength insurance. She cannot afford to pay for health insurance and she tried to receive medicaid but the state told her that she cannot get medicaid until she is 65 which unsurprisingly by then she can get medicare. She is only 59 at this time. Does anyone own any advice on what she can do?

Unless she can attain coverage through a job, she could look for a less-expensive high-deductible plan. I'm sorry that she ended up in this situation. Does she hold a job or any job skills? Any money set aside for an emergency? No life insurance? I would stimulate anyone whose family could face this situation to buy life insurance in a minute! Term life insurance is dirt cheap and could have prevented this.

The other place she could try is free clinics if your community has any. There is also a program call the Breast and Cervical Cancer Program that she may qualify for. It provides pap tests and mammograms with followup of any abnormal findings. Call your local vigour department for a referral.
