When someone overdoses on drugs, and you call 911 and report that they're unresponsive, you take the target to the appropiate place (away from the drugs) then paramedics come and realize that it was an overdose, is it true that they don't necessitate to call the police unless they're being threatened? Do the police bring involved at all? I'm not a junkie or anything, nor do I have someone od'ing on my nouns, but I'm just curious.

In the US, they are not required to call the police. In reality, they are not really allowed to call the police unless they have common sense to suspect a crime has been committed, resembling a poisoning, or if the victim was a child and that child casualness or abuse occurred. Even consequently, it probably wouldn't be the police, but Child Protection Services.

There's a very good use for this. People shouldn't be afraid to get help if they overdose and revise their minds, or if they overdose and survive, then decide to carry help. Nor should those who find them - a loved one like a wife, maybe - have to worry just about the police when they need to call an ambulance. They might not ring out of fear of losing the breadwinner of the household to a prison term, and in recent times hope they survive.

It all depends on the nature of the nickname, as it's described to the 911 staff. If the feel that the ambulance crew might be in threat in any way, they will transport police as well. In my county, overdoses usually get a police response, too, but this noticeably varies from place to place.

Paramedics won't call the cops unless they quality threatened...they generally don't care that the tolerant overdosed on an illegal substance, they just want to recover that person's life. If a patient tell me he took an illegal drug, I don't report that to the police; I'm just grateful that the merciful told me the truth (makes my job a lot easier).
