Shin splints is a painful condition within the shin involving inflammation that occurs either in the front or inside part of the shin bone. In many cases, shin splints can result from intense physical activity such as running or jumping, and is a condition that can normally take a long time to heal.
The symptoms for shin splints include tightness and/or tenderness around the shin, especially after running or walking for long distances. Shin splints are commonly caused by excessive stretching of muscles and tendons along the shin bones (tibia and fibula). Overuse of these muscles by athletes and runners is the most common factor. Excessive pronation of the feet can also be a crucial contributing factor. Over-pronation leads to internal tibial rotation and increases the tractional forces upon the muscles and ligaments in the lower leg.
In the short term, rest is required to backing alleviate shin pain; running and other strenuous activities should be avoided until the condition is minimized. Shin Splints can frequently be prevented by warming up up to that time intense physical activity.
Using appropriate footwear is also a good way to prevent and curtail the effect of shin splints, especially for runners who strike heavily with the heel. Running shoes with proper rear foot stability are noteworthy. Orthotic insoles are useful in that they help prevent over-pronation and provide heel cushioning to mute impact while providing heel stability.

Have you ever injured it? And what kind of pain is it? Is it acute or sore or merely hurts when you move a certain way? Pain is funny that way. Its also possible that the means of access you shoes rub up against your ankle is causing the discomfort. If you could describe a little more we might be able to rigid it down for you. How much walking/exercise have you done lately? When you sit down, do you sit on your feet?
I would suggest going easy on it for a while and elevating it. If its swollen, you should rime it down for 30 minutes at a time and wrap it up tight when your out and about. Hope that helps! Hope it feels better soon :)
er i own had there before... give up it for 5 days to a week and the swelling should begin to go down... if it lasts longer contact a doctor.. however if it is anything close to what I had it shouldnt come to that...
My jaws are swollen and bleeding. home..
Do you run on flat hard surfaces? If you have started running you could hold shin splints i get them every year for b-ball they suck. Just wrap your shins tight b4 you go running. :)shin splints probably. i had them, and they really suck
