Random, even so VERY uncomfortable, calf cramp.
I was just wake up from a nap on my bed. I put my left foot up against my wall, which created a small angle.
But suddenly, I get this strange, excruciating pain once again!
It feels close to my upper calf muscles are even being squeezed by the hand of a giant or my cal muscle is flexing WAYYY beyond the majority.
I can't really explain how much it hurts, but for at least a minute or two, it kills.
Afterwards, it feel a little better for a minute, but I must be careful not to bumpstart and build it happen all over again.
Once again, it have been an hour since that and it STILL hurts.
I'm using the RICE treatment, but that doesn't seem to be helping much.
Can you comfort?
[Ps. I am turning sixteen in one month, am about 5'3", am close to being underweight/normal body mass. I usually exercise a lot, by soccer, during the college year. But during the summer, I don't exercise as much.]
Answer: It sounds like a "charlie horse".
Have you just completed exercise, approaching running or walking? Sometimes that triggers these things. This happens a LOT to sports-minded people.
After exercise, did you do any cooling down exercises, or did you a short time ago quit and go home? Sometimes, running a couple of easy lap after practice helps.
Have you had adequate to drink, and I mean WATER, not juices, colas, or sports drinks? Dehydration can sometimes inflict this. Drink LOTS of water, especially in summer.
If you can arrive at it, try "rubbing it out". Rub up and down the muscles with both hands.
You can also try thaw out compresses, and/or a heating pad.
In severe cases, you may call for to see a doctor, but I'd talk with your sport trainer first, to see if nearby are any exercises you can do, including cool down exercise, AND be sure that you are drinking plenty of water . . . .
EDIT:
Try walking it off. I know to be precise painful, but it helps.
SECOND EDIT:
Thre is a HUGE amount of information on-line. Try Googling "leg cramps"
Trouble is, most of it is contradicting -- drink milk/don't drink milk, too much/too little calcium/potassium, too muich/not satisfactory exercise, etc.
Fact is, doctors don't know what causes them, so the cure is unknown as well. Basically, do what aorks.
BE CAREFUL of taking potassium supplements! Too much potassium can destroy your heart..
I hate when that happens. it be most likely a Charlie horse which is just a cramp surrounded by the muscle, its not really a big deal. whenever that happens to me I enjoy to be really careful not to move it a certain course for a few hours or it will start again, but you don't really have to worry its not a big traffic. i do know how much that hurts cause i have gotten it up to that time. my trainer says that it is a muscle cramp. try eating something near potassium in it or taking potassium pills. .
the best thing to do when that happen, is to not move or touch the muscle that is in twinge, it goes away after a few seconds. that happen with my feet Its call 'Charlies Horse' (leg cramp). You get them because it means that your not getting adequate calcium and potassium.
