Scard to run Methadone?
I have been within pain managment for a year now, and enjoy tried many diffrent pain meds, most of which made me sick, some have no effect, my doctor prescribed me oxycontin but my ins wants me to try methodone first, I've had the prescription for 5 days in a minute and have not touched it, I take oxycodone for breakthrough niggle w/o tylenol I 'm not sure why I'm so scard of methodone I guess my doc knows what he's doing. My script is 10 mg tab first I take 1 every 12 hrs for 7 days, then 1 every 8 hrs for 7 days, and finally 2 every 12 hrs, does that nouns right? and is that alot? Thanks for your help, no digrading coments please.
Answer: No that is not a voluminous dose of Methadone. I was on 10mg tabs 3 times a year for over 6 months for my chronic pain. It does sound similar to your doctor knows what he is doing.
From experience I can tell you that Methadone be an absolute God send. I be not able to function because of my pain and be literally house bound. The Methadone helped me so much!
I was narrowed off it after completing and intensive chronic pain program. However since I hold had 3 surgeries in the closing 7 months and my pain is out of control again I plan on going spinal column to the pain clinic and going back onto Methadone.
Alot of folks are scared of Methadone because it is synthetic heroin and there is a stigma attached because recovering heroin addict usually take it.
However in times past few years it has become a very powerful medication for pain control for people next to chronic pain. I knew a man that be on 100 mg per day for years.
If I were you I would try it, you may capture some fantastic relief from it. If you don't, you can always taper stale of it and then your insurance company will probably okay the OxyContin.

Explain to your doctor that you do not want to use methadone. The side effects alone make it not worth the amount of throbbing relief it provides. It is a cheap pain medication, that is to say the only benifit to using it. Your insurance company isn't suppose to be making medication choices for you. You are smart to not want to get started on it. It is a remarkably hard drug to get sour. And no the dosage your doctor has recommended is not high at adjectives. I breaks my heart that good people own to be exposed to a drug like methadone because of the cost. I'm going to forward your question to someone that can tender you much better info.
