Severe bladder backache after removal of foley catheter
4 days ago, I gave birth to my son via c-section. I had my foley catheter placed on Thursday evening and it be removed on Saturday morning, so it was in place for approximately 36 hours. After removing the catheter, I own had severe pain when urinating. It's not a burning discomfort or anything, but more like a severe, sharp pain when empty my bladder. It begins to hurt as I feel my bladder padding up and make me feel approaching I have to urinate immediately. If I don't void my bladder, the pain will continue to increase. Then when I do leave my bladder, it does okay during urination, but seizes up at the end of the urine flow and is extremely bleeding. It's a horrible pain, like a bladder spasm I suppose, but even what the doctor give me to control bladder spasms has not worked. It's still excruciating when I have to urinate and I dread it every time. Any concept what this might be? I just got discharged from the hospital today so I haven't have a chance to talk to my doctor almost it all yet. I'm hoping it get better! I can handle the pain of the c-section...it's the anguish of the bladder that I can't stand! Ugh. Any ideas what might be going on with me? Could it be a acting complication of the catheter?
Answer: You're having bladder spasms, caused by the irritation from the foreign doubt that was in your bladder, or possibly a bladder infection, surrounded by addition. I had a stent placed into my kidney through my bladder when I have kidney stone surgery, and my bladder spasmed (VERY painfully) every time I urinated.
Tell your doctor immediately. He will likely up the dosage of the anti-spasmodic, and the problem should resolve itself..
You may involve to have the antispasmodic you are currently on increased, you may also have an infection. Urinary bladder infections are slightly common after foley catheter insertion. You should phone your physician as soon as possible, someone is on call 24 hours. The sooner you phone, the better. Having a c-section only complicates the situation. Also, your uterus contracts rapidly which also cause spasms. Even though you had a c-section, your uterus is stretched and needs to return to it's prepregnant state. Hey view taking them pill's for bladder spasms , I took so and had the same point happen ,it actually cause me to get a bladder infection, and since you just have a baby and all I not really sure on what to update you to take to help near the pain, but if possible try taking some sit baths contained by water as hot as u can stand it and do some kellogs.
