I have an appt. with a Neurologist nxt. week and I want to know what meds they would possibly place me on... nearby has to be a better way to not suffer most days... Does narcotic meds work for these, or unconscious remys?

I have severe chronic migraines too that sometimes can be crippling! I am on a low dose of Atenelol daily to prevent migraines (it help with the blood vessels contained by the head). I wasn't able to get nouns from Imitrex and it turned out I was allergic to it.I have be on Axert in the past that worked fantastically for me until I changed insurance and they wouldn't cover it. Now I am on Maxalt and that is to say very helpful.
Its great that you are seeing a neurologist as they will know how to help you find the medications that will work for you.
Good luck to you,

What enjoy I done to my wrist?
I second Michelle. Medicines that vasodialated or vasoconstricted (i cant remember which) minister to me the most. Unfortunately, you can't take allergy medicines next to them so it was hard for me to help yourself to them long term. It's good that you're going to a Neurologist- lots of doctors newly want to give you something to relieve the pain but a neurologist is more possible to give you something to prevent them in the first place. Herbal teas are informative for my migraines. Try googling something about herbal medicine and migraines. Good luck. I know they suck. Also, someone said whip tylenol everyday. DO NOT DO THAT! It's dangerous and can totally mess up your body long-term, especially your liver.
mine is driving me insane.I take imatrix. it really doesn't do the charge..But..when i get it i usually go stright to the bathroom to throw it up. first entry first when u feel it coming, you have to throw up.when u throw up you'll consistency better. and you won't get it for weeks.i usually take taynol on a day after day baisis to prevented from happening.but, you gonna want to stay away from lights and food that triggers it...:(
I have a product that I supply that has helped other ethnic group who suffer from migraines. If you would like more information about this contact me via email or im and I can provide you a link that lists testimony.
A Neurologist finally prescribed an over the counter remedy for my teenage daughter that had be suffering with migraines for two years. He put her on Naproxen, just 50 mg once within the morning, and once at night, as follows: To be started three days before her time of year, everyday of her period, and for three days after her period.
Prior to this we have tried Imitrex, the maximam adult doses for her, first the pills, then the inhaled method , Migrainol again tried the pills and the inhaler, and numerous trips to the hospital for IV fluids to stop the vomiting and try to acquire pain relief. We be at the E.R. at least twice a month to get the vomiting lower than control once her migraines would start.
So I was skeptical that an over the counter medication would work. But it has. Migraine free for two years and in a minute she has been competent to take gym again at school and even try out for cheer. The Dr. have permanently restricted her from such activities because they have triggered her migraines so often. If a headache is coming on, it never becomes a migraine for she starts the medication, go to lie down for awhile and then is fine.
The Neurologist explained that hormones be her major trigger. Thus the regimen of ten days a month on the Naproxen. Simple and cheap, and easy to live near for once.
Narcotics are NOT. You will not be able to function for they will make you sleep adjectives the time, while on them.
Hope you get to feeling better.
How to computer-generated an ankle injury?
Narcotics are not horribly affective for migraines. Imitrex worked best for me but not everytime. Were you taking the oral or injectible imitrex?when I first started taking it Imitrex was only available next to an injectable mode of delivery. It was a lifesaver. A few years following it came out in oral form and I found the pills did zilch for me at all. If you haven't tried the injectable don't give up on it on the other hand, ask to try the auto injector.
You need to find your triggers. Sun and loud noises obviously so always wear dark eyeglasses and a hat outdoors. Most of us have a low tolerance for fragrances, I haven't worn cologne within 25 years, nor does anyone else in the family. I buy unscented cleaning products or manufacture my own.
Has anyone recommended you keep a journal? It's the first point the migraine clinic I went to had me do and it be great. For several months I wrote down everything I ate, every headache, how severe, where I was and what I be doing when it hit. I found that everytime I ate smoked meats I got a migraine as okay as several other food triggers. It isn't always obvious until you look over a few months of journalling. It's not close to I had a migraine only when I ate bacon. I have to think of the ingredients in every dish I have eaten the day beforehand a migraine, bacon, ham, proscuitto, smoked pork loin. Common food triggers are aged cheeses, red wine or any alcohol, MSG, ripe bananas, for some people it's all processed foods. Actually, I found this newly now, it's a link to a index of foods that commonly trigger migraines.

If Imitrex doesn't work for you there isn't much more to try, the key is to reduce the number of headaches you have by identify the triggers. As they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure :)
