Swimmers Ear With No Hearing and Swollen Ear

I have swimmers ear and have for more or less 7 days now.

I saw an ear specialist yesterday and he gave me ear drops to hopefully backing with the process. My ear is currently very swollen, almsot to the point of one closed. The drops take a while to actually turn into the ear.

I need to know, how does swimmers ear heal? Should I be looking for discharge from my ear, or will swimmers ear eventually merely go away without doing anything?

Is it doomed to failure to sleep on the infected ear? It hurts to sleep on it, but i'm curious if it's a good or a bad point.

I have no hearing surrounded by my ear that is infected. Does anybody know how long this will take to make well?

The pain is excrutiating and has be present for quite a while now. Please oblige.

Answer:    I'm sorry you are going through this I know that it is pretty painful.

When our family have had this, I have never see a discharge from the ear. After being on the drops for 24-48 hours we saw improvement and every year would bring another step forward. I don't think you would damage the ear by sleeping on it, but it will probably increase the swelling. Which will increase the spasm, so I wouldn't do it.

Ice and Ibuprofen are always good for inflammation. Sleeping contained by a recliner may also help the inflammation.

I would think you are over the worst of it and will everyday sense progress.

I hope you get better soon. Best wishes..
I got swimmer's ear frequently when I be younger. My right ear canal is sort of crooked and water does not drain out of it very well. The drops should help. It does take somewhat while. After you get over it, you might want to use isopropyl alcohol in your ears after showering or swimming. It help to evaporate out the water in your ears.
