Answer: There's different kinds of bone grafts. Some from yourself , usually the hip (iliac crest), a donor, or synthetic.
My son have a synthetic bone graft done for a non-union of his femur. This was the last step to catch his leg to heal. He'd already had 5 other surgeries. The appropriate news is the bone graft worked and after almost 3 years his femur finally healed.
If they lug the graft from your iliac crest, you might have a little hip anguish, but healing your leg will be worth it
Good luck, also I should add that the plate is probably not what's hurting you. It's probably the bone. My son have a plate that runs from over his hip down to his knee. After the bone had heal, he says he can't even tell the plate is near.
