Answer:

A stent is put surrounded by to hold the artery open to allow more blood flow. Eventually new tissue grows over the stent and it is competent to keep the artery open.

Any operation have a level of danger to it, however I honestly don't believe that it is hugely precarious. The doctor placing the stent can give more detailed information on risks involved.

I would expect there would be some distress as it is surgery, however I don't believe that it would be excruciating. In fact compared to most surgeries, I believe there will be smaller number pain as it is generally a small incision and done next to a scope.
