What benevolent of anesthesia and torment killer?
I'm 17 years old and getting my tonsils removed in April and I was wondering what description of anesthesia do they give you before the tonsillectomy and what kind of painkillers do they prescribe to you for the post-op strain? Any other advice you have for me is greatly appreciated! =] thanks!
Answers: General anesthesia - in that is no other option for tonsillectomy.
If you want specifics, it's likely to be midazolam, propofol, sevoflurane (maybe desflurane), maybe a paralytic (I don't use them, but my ENT guys are swift and I just keep my patients deep on gas), fentanyl and perchance morphine or dilaudid.
Post-op pain meds are the surgeon's choice.
Other tips:
Eat lightly the day until that time surgery. Pain medications are constipating, and you don't want a full digestive system after surgery.
Follow your instructions. Sounds straightforward, but you'd be amazed how many people regard as they know better and get themselves into trouble because of it.
Good luck! You'll do fine. Source(s): I'm an anesthesiologist.
