What give poop its awful smell and colour?

Simple question, right? But what makes poop smell close to poop? Despite the fact that all poops smell different, its fair-minded to say that the smell of poop is unmistakable and therefore in that must be something in common that poops share that cause that poopy smell, especially given since the foods consumed are vastly different between one person and another.

I also wanted to know what give poop its generally dark brown colour. With the mixture of foods that one eat, I would have imagined it to have be black or dark green. Again, it must be some element that adjectives poops have in adjectives?

Answer:    Why does poop stink?
Poop stinks as a result of the products of bacterial action. Bacteria produce smelly, sulfur-rich organic compounds such as indole, skatole, and mercaptans, and the inorganic gas hydrogen sulfide. These are like peas in a pod compounds that give farts their odor.

Why is poop brown?
The color comes mainly from bilirubin, a pigment that arises from the breakdown of red blood cell in the liver and bone marrow. The actual metabolic pathway of bilirubin and its byproducts in the body is impressively complicated, so we will simply say that a lot of it ends up surrounded by the intestine, where it is further modified by bacterial action. But the color itself comes from iron. Iron surrounded by hemoglobin in red blood cells give blood its red color, and iron in the waste product bilirubin give rise to its brown color.
