What is the difference between Percocet and oxycodone?

I suffer from chronic back pain and it have been suggested to me to switch from the Percocet to the Oxycodone so I can minimize the amount of aspirin/acetaminophen my liver is exposed to

Answers:    oxycodone has no acetaminophen contained by it like percocet, it is just the narcotic. percocet is the brand label for a pill that contains oxycodone and it does have acetaminophen. an example would be 5/500 the five being the mg's of oxy and the 500 person the amount of acetaminophen. there is oxycontin which is just oxycodone. the contin factor of the word just means continuous release and does not contain any other medication. heaps medications for pain hold part narcotic and part acetaminophen resembling fioricet which is part butalbital and part aceta. fioricet is the brand entitle for butalbital. percocet has many siblings the exact same medication by a differant designation because it is made by a different pharmaceutical company. try webmd.com they have all the info you involve. gd lk.
Whoever suggested that may be referring to OxyContin (continued release) or OxyIR (immediate release), which are forms of oxycodone without the acetaminophen in Percocet.

On the other appendage, they could be referring to generic Percocet, which may or may not have less acetaminophen. Or even Percodan which have aspirin(which is not harmful to the liver), instead of acetaminophen..
Basically, Percocet and Oxycodone are the same medication. The difference is that percocet have acetaminophen added. Oxycodone doesn't.

I will add some links with more information on respectively. The second link expains the difference. Very informative. Take care!

Good Luck!

.
Same article one is generic. It does have acetaminophen in it. The numbers after the word oxycodone will share you the amount of hydrocodone and the amount of acet. like 5/500 or 10/750. I usually ask the doctor for the lowest amount of both that will help the aching. Have you thought to Google 'percocet' then 'oxycodone'? I'll bet that one of the sites that comes up will be the PDR (Physician's Desk Reference) which contains every conceivable description of every registered pharmaceutical..
Percocet is a combination of oxycodone and acetaminophen.
